About This Book
This college memoir covers my five years--1955 to 1960--at Northwest Nazarene College (now University) in Nampa, Idaho. The story covers the usual ingredients of a college experience: new friends, especially in a men's dormitory; dating, leading to engagement with Joyce Oldenkamp, and later marriage; sports, including four years on the college baseball team; and five years of academics to gain a BA in English and a BA in history. Because they was a Christian (evangelical) college, the memoir incudes a good deal on the challenges between faith and learning, how I put together my academic and spiritual journeys. The closing chapter traces the legacies from my years at NNC as they surfaced throughout my next sixty years plus, as a college professor of history and a continuing member of several evangelical churches. I hope my story will encourage others to turn out similar college memoirs.
