Robert Trebor, M.D., was born and raised in Philadelphia in a deeply musical family. Surrounded by extraordinary talent—his mother, Elsa Hilger, a pioneering orchestra cellist, and his father, a dentist with a passion for Beethoven—music became part of his identity early on. “If you cut me, I bleed cello,” he often says, reflecting a lifelong connection to the instrument that continues through his accomplished son and into the pages of his fiction.
After completing medical school, internship, and residency, Dr. Trebor devoted over 30 years to family practice, a career he loved for its human connection and purpose. Yet, true to his unconventional spirit, he reinvented himself at age sixty, pursuing a childhood dream of becoming a truck driver. Over the next decade, he logged 1.5 million safe miles on the road. He later spent 11 years as a U.S. Census field worker, finding meaning in brief but impactful social encounters.
A Vietnam War veteran who served as a Battalion Surgeon from 1970 to 1971, Dr. Trebor carries both the honor and the physical cost of his service. Despite health challenges later in life, his intellectual curiosity and creative drive never faded. At age 83, he discovered a new calling—writing.
He is the author of the reality-based fiction series You’ll Be the First to Know, a multi-volume work blending imagination with lived experience. His stories are rich with themes of music, resilience, adventure, and the complexities of human relationships, often centered on characters who reflect his own life journey. Whether recounting high-speed racetrack feats, daring sailing adventures, or deeply personal healing moments, his writing captures a life lived boldly and thoughtfully.
Now in his eighties, Robert Trebor writes with the same vigor that defined his many careers. For him, writing is more than expression—it is vitality itself. As he puts it, “I live to write, write to live.”
