Against the Wind

The Great Depression brings five boys to a small town in Oregon's Central Cascades. Lost Prairie basketball coach Steve Wynyski suddenly finds himself with the skills to lift his Crestview Bears from doormat to conference contender and beyond. Coach Wiz takes stock of his windfall. Lacking in both depth and length, he takes a chance turning to an up-tempo offense and tenacious defense. Led by a Philadelphia roundball prodigy, the bears begin their improbable quest for the state championship. The path is difficult. Crestview High has just sixty-nine students. Their opponents often much larger. The challenges extend beyond the hardwood. Five years of hand-to-mouth existence test the mettle of both family and community. In a a world beset by tragedy, the bears keep winning. Their success brings joy to beleagured lost Prairie.
