About This Book
The members of the IDEA Group are convinced about the challenge posed by the emergence of 21st century dictatorships and pret-a-porter democracies that cover up real authoritarianisms, tempered by categories of convenience that speak of illiberal democracies. Aware of this, the former heads of State and Government that form it, make an agonal call to do and build under the sign of hope and the inalienable commitment to respect for the dignity of the human person. This book of documents is a test of will, and also a legacy. It is a clear response, however modest it may seem, perhaps temporarily extinguished by the quantum phenomenon of networks, to the dissent of those who, from this side, say nothing about the reservation that China made to the Universal Declaration on Democracy, adopted by the World Interparliamentary Union in 1997 or Venezuela's protest against the validity of the Inter-American Democratic Charter of 2001; both guided by the same spirit that made possible the adoption, in 1948, of the American Declaration of Human Rights and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
