About This Book

This is an introductory book to teach the basics of the Persian (Farsi, Dari) Language alphabets through a simplified approach. Each letter is accompanied by its pronunciation and its corresponding or closely related phoneme in the English Language. For each letter, three examples are provided that show the use of the letter in a word. The Persian Language frequently attaches letters to one another to compose words. Those letters change forms depending on their character position (initial, medial, or final) within a word. These changes are demonstrated through examples and in tabulated form in the appendix section of the book. Furthermore, the pronunciation guide used in this book deviates from the conventions of the International Phonetic Alphabet. It is opting for a more simplified approach that mirrors the natural auditory qualities of the letters or words in question, expressed through everyday language in English. For example, say the 15th letter of the Persian alphabet sounds exactly like the English term “seen”. So, instead of using something like /siːn/ or any other equivalent standard phonetic alphabet to express the pronunciation of the said letter, the word “seen” is used to achieve this goal. Additionally, the appendix section of the book also includes ample spaces to practice letter tracing. This section is thoughtfully designed to encompass not only the original forms of each letter but also the transformations that occur when these letters are incorporated within words, specifically in the initial, medial, and final character positions. This is to ensure that readers not only grasp the writing of the individual letters but also their contextual variations within words.
