About This Book
In May 1849, Michael and Anna Streitmatter left their homeland of Hägelberg, Baden, due to political turmoil and instability. They left everything behind and embarked on a journey across the Atlantic to start a new life in America to safeguard their children amidst the Baden Revolution.
This book is about their voyage on the Ship Bavaria, arriving in New York Harbor and living in New York State before venturing to Central Illinois to start a new life for generations. It details their hardships and challenges as they endeavored to establish themselves in a foreign land.
