About This Book
The Film Photography Courses includes basic film photography information using the traditional photographic skills which predate digital photography.
I have taught traditional photography and digital photography at a number of public universities and colleges for nearly 40 years, but with the rise in digital imaging I felt that many of these legacy techniques and methodologies might be lost. Here I present simple, straight forward information on the basics of photography. Each of the four courses is a stand-alone course, with each building on knowledge from the previous courses. These courses were a university semester in length.
Photography 4 - The Zone System - This 4th photography course is NOT one of the basic courses, but is the complete, rarely known, intense methodology presented in an easy-to-understand form. Created by Ansel Adams, whom I knew, as the ultimate in B&W photographic control. Here as adapted by Professor Lawrence Butler of RIT/NTID. I taught this as a semester course for running the tests. Then, I recommended an additional semester so that students could learn to utilize what they had discovered. Also, an air print dryer you can build. All significant course information which I handed out to my many photography students over the years is included except the shooting and writing assignments.
Good luck on your adventure using film photography. I pity photographers who haven’t worked under a dim safelight watching with wonderment as an image slowly, miraculously appears in the developer tray. Here is information photographers have used for nearly two centuries. When I began photography, I thought it was magic . . . and I still do. Enjoy!
