About This Book
This is a story meant to be a beacon of hope and inspiration for the minority professional and student speech-language pathologists women struggling with a sense of belonging in their field. It follows the autobiographic journey of Barbara Fernandes, an adult immigrant to the U.S, as she embarks on her journey as a CSD student learning both English and Spanish, facing isolation, microaggressions, and her own internal battles to eventually become a successful entrepreneur within the SLP field. The journey from striving to thriving is amplified by the inclusion of her many Black and Brown, Latinx, Asian and immigrants colleagues as they also open up to share relatable struggles and battles to succeed within a field that . The book is a rallying cry for unity and tolerance among minority SLPs to actively show the inclusion for each other that we know the profession stands for.
