About This Book

This reflection was born in the stillness of the Holy Table—where words fall away, and only the heart speaks before God. Often, while serving or praying in the Sanctuary, my eyes were drawn upward to the image of the Holy Mother of God holding the Divine Child. In that quiet gaze, I was led into contemplation—not by reason alone, but by prayerful stillness. From that silence, one question kept returning: Why does the image of the Holy Mother holding the Infant Jesus stand above every Armenian Altar? What Mystery does it hold, and what quiet teaching does it offer the hearts that look up to her in prayer? In our Armenian Apostolic tradition, theology is not confined to books; it is lived and revealed in the Liturgy, in the architecture of the Church, and in the icons that gather around the Holy Table. Every color, gesture, and movement becomes a confession of faith. The Mother of God, placed above the Altar with the Divine Child in her arms, teaches a living theology—one that speaks through vision, silence, and beauty.
