About This Book

This book by Professor Allan R. Brewer-Carías, is the Constitutional Chronicle of the process of kidnapping and confiscation by the authoritarian regime in Venezuela in the last twenty-five years, both of the citizen's right to indirect political participation, through suffrage, whose elections have progressively ceased to be free, fair, plural, transparent and verifiable; and the citizen's right to direct political participation, which began in 1999. To this end, the book is divided into five parts: Part One deals with the hijacking of the citizen's right to the participation of representatives of the different sectors of society in the Nominating Committees for the election of the high holders of the public powers not elected by universal, direct and secret suffrage; Part Two refers to the hijacking of citizens' right to political participation through consultative and recall referendums; Part Three deals with the hijacking of the people's right to political participation through popular consultation of draft laws and regulations; Part Four refers to the hijacking of the elections under the dictatorship that between 2017 and 2024 were never again free, fair, transparent, trustworthy, or verifiable; and Part Five, refers to the persistent absence of democratic conditions and guarantees for the holding of free, fair, transparent and verifiable elections and the case of the presidential election scheduled for July 28, 2024 without the candidacy of María Corina Machado, who was unconstitutionally and illegitimately disqualified from participating.
