About This Book

This book is the reproduction of the Allegation of Venezuela. Reply to the "British Blue Book" presented to the two Houses of Parliament last March with the title "Documents and correspondence relating to the question of Limits between British Guiana and Venezuela," Official Edition, National Press, Caracas 1896. Such Blue Book, with Documents and correspondence related to the question of the boundaries between British Guiana and Venezuela was presented by Her Britannic Majesty's Government before the two Houses of Parliament in 1896, after that the Presidential Commission to determine the true boundary between Venezuela and the British Guiana Colony, appointment in 1895 by President Grover Cleveland of the United States, with the approval of Congress, began to carry out the an extraordinary work it accomplished demonstrating with historical documents, the Venezuela's rights over the Essequibo Territory. In a certain way the Blue Book was a response to the work of the North American Presidential Commission, and was prepared facing the growing international pressure and the potential war prospects derived from the boundary conflict between Venezuela and British Guiana. The Blue Book contain a set of fallacies and historical falsehoods, seeking to substantiate the illegitimate and punctual occupation of parts of the territory of Guiana Essequiba through the establishments set up by Dutch commercial companies, which were the only ones that had been ceded in 1814 to the United Kingdom, completely ignoring the process of discovery, occupation and taking possession of these territories by Spain from 1498, from which derive the territorial rights of Venezuela over the Essequibo Territory.
