This book of Professor Allan R. Brewer-Carías, is the Constitutional Chronicle, written while the events occurred, of the entire process of suffocation of the Legislative Power in Venezuela, developed between 2016 and 2018, as a result of the political control obtained by the democratic opposition in the parliamentary elections of December 2015, where even its representatives obtained the qualified majority of seats in the National Assembly.
The government's response was the suffocation and annihilation of the National Assembly, starting in January 2016, producing a complete perversion of the rule of law, particularly as a result of the work of the Constitutional Chamber of the Supreme Court of Justice, acting as a Constitutional Judge subjected to political control by the Executive Branch, becoming the most devious agent at the service of authoritarianism.
With its action, the Constitutional Chamber, in the period 2016-2020, destroyed the Legislative Power, annulling absolutely all the laws and other legislative acts it adopted, not only past but even future acts, usurping the legislative functions and declaring the Assembly in contempt, thus also disrupting the entire system of constitutional justice that had taken so many years to conceive and develop. which became the main instrument to destroy democracy.
