About This Book

Introduction: Everyone would like to meet an alien; if the opportunity came to fruition, there would be a lot to discuss. When I was about 14 years old, a friend, Dick Cramer, and I were watching the stars and speculating about life somewhere among those stars. Of course, we wished that a spaceship would come down and take us for a ride. The prospect of alien life allows us all to dream of the possibilities. Astronomers have indicated there are about 5.3 trillion planets in the known universe capable of life as we know it. (That number was prior to the Webb Telescope) Life, that is, as we have yet to understand its nature and origin in the universe. The chemistry of life will no doubt be based on the chemical makeup of the planet of origin. The number of planets, 5.3 trillion capable of producing a form of life is said to be conservative, in other words, if we believe we are the only life form in the universe, we deceive ourselves. Space travel at this time would not allow us to get to the nearest one of the ‘exoplanets’ a planet capable of sustaining life such as ours, in one’s lifetime of travel. So, for the time being, we can dream. On a ride to town with my son, in approximately 1994, we were discussing how nice it would be to receive interstellar visitors. I believe my son, perhaps a freshman in high school at the time, suggested how neat it would be to have an alien come to Mondovi High School. As soon as I got home, I started putting ideas on paper. The story has sat for about thirty years. (In the story, in retrospect, I should have used Mondovi.) Not too long ago, I sent the story to my grandson, Adam. Adam added some ideas, now with the Pandemic, I have time to go back at it one more time. Adam indicated that some of the references were an impossible stretch scientifically, but, this is science fiction.
