About This Book

This book indicates the hypotheses on the possible atrocious crimes perpetrated in Venezuela to the detriment of the indigenous people affected by the Orinoco Mining Arc ("AMO") in the State of Bolivar, as well as by illegal mining carried out by foreign irregular forces, garimpeiros and organized crime in other areas of that locality and in the states of Amazonas and Delta Amacuro, with effects in Amazonian countries. The aim is to identify and make visible the possible crimes and destructive activities in the rainforest of the South Orinoco River, to the direct and immediate detriment of the habitat, as well as the life and integrity of the indigenous peoples and communities that are impacted by the AMO, both in their existence and survival as well as in their condition of being the environmental and territorial guardians. The importance and need for the Prosecutor before the International Criminal Court to carry out the investigation in the field, based on the well-founded elements that indicate that crimes within the jurisdiction of the International Criminal Court have been perpetrated, given the inability and unwillingness of the Venezuelan State to carry out the genuine and relevant investigations that correspond. It is also necessary for the International Independent Fact-Finding Mission to continue to investigate further. Likewise, the Office of the Public Defender of Victims of the International Criminal Court can exercise representations in trial in the defense of the rights of indigenous peoples and communities. Likewise, the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights can have a positive impact on the rectification of this extractive policy and its consequences. The United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples and the American Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples are annexed.
