About This Book
As the Greek philosopher Christos Yannaras aptly stated, “The unique, dissimilar, and unrepeatable character of each human expression is inevitably obscured or ignored with a view to containing it within the universal terms of objective definitions.”
So it is with the scholasticism of history.
With this in mind I’ve started my version of “Concerning His Own Affairs”, the epic poem of Gregory of Nazianzus, with the intent of transposing subjective experience onto historical record.
Much like “Concerning His Own Affairs” doubly acts as an account of Gregory’s personal struggles and an authentic historical record of Greek-speaking Late Antiquity, Bloviating Softly does the same with myself and the so-called Postmodern era of the United States.
